A shocking murder took place near Burrabazar's Ram Mandir in Kolkata, where a trader’s body was brutally chopped into pieces and stuffed inside a trolley bag. The incident occurred at 198 Muktaram Babu Street, where the victim, Bhagararam Singh, a fabric trader from Rajasthan’s Pali district, was murdered inside a warehouse.
According to police investigations, the accused, Karan Singh and Krishnaram Singh, poisoned Bhagararam’s coffee, making him unconscious before slitting his throat and strangling him with a nylon rope. They then tied his mouth, hands, and feet with tape to ensure he could not resist. The entire murder was over a financial dispute amounting to ₹8 lakh.
Following the murder, the accused kept the body inside the warehouse before stuffing it into a trolley bag. Later, they changed their clothes and continued business operations as usual to avoid suspicion.
In the evening, Karan and Krishnaram hired a yellow taxi to transport the bag to Nagerbazar before switching to an app cab to head toward Kalyani Expressway near Ghola. Their plan was foiled when the app cab driver, Rahul Adhikari, became suspicious of their movements and the bag's contents. He immediately alerted the police by dialing 100, leading to a swift response from a patrolling van.
Police arrested Karan Singh on the spot, while Krishnaram initially managed to escape. However, mobile phone tower tracking helped police trace and arrest Krishnaram from Muktaram Babu Street. Initially, reports suggested that the murder took place in a rented house, but police later confirmed it happened inside a fabric warehouse.
Authorities are also investigating if additional individuals were involved in the crime. The accused, who were involved in the salwar suit business, have been taken into custody for further questioning.
The trolley bag, along with other forensic evidence, has been sent for examination. Police are also analyzing CCTV footage from the area to gather more information about the sequence of events. Both Karan and Krishnaram hail from Rajasthan, and investigators are looking into their financial transactions with the victim to determine the exact motive behind the murder.
